The Art Colony in Hornbæk (Kunstnerkolonien i Hornbæk)

January 10 - April 13, 2025

DR’s (The Danish Broadcasting Corporation) upcoming season of Kunstnerkolonien (The Art Colony) was filmed in North Zealand, primarily in Hornbæk and Nivå, where the artists respectively lived and had their studios. In the programme, the unveiling of works by six prominent contemporary artists took place at The Nivaagaard Collection. This can be experienced in December when the series premieres on DR and DR TV — and in person from January 10, when The Nivaagaard Collection opens its doors to an exhibition of works from Kunstnerkolonien season 5, presented alongside the museum’s own collection.

The TV series Kunstnerkolonien has aired for four seasons, with DR bringing together six of Denmark’s renowned artists each year to create an art colony in an iconic location. These are places where artists have historically sought inspiration and found camaraderie with other artists. After 14 days, the season’s participants showcase the works they have created during their stay.

Hornbæk in North Zealand sets the stage as Apolonia Sokol, Kasper Eistrup, Nina Saunders, Jeannette Ehlers, Noah Umur Kanber, and Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen follow in the footsteps of past masters such as Krøyer, Drachmann, Locher, and Tegner.

The series premieres on DRTV on December 28 and on DR2 the following day.

The exhibition is presented in collaboration with DR and Eddy Media.
